Use Case Description

  • Bosch is a leading global supplier of technology and services.
  • Carl Zeiss is a German manufacturer of optical systems, industrial measurements and medical devices.
  • Within PLM 7.01 the business object (for example an ER) must be assigned to contexts either manually or automatically through a default context of the user during business object creation. This assignment determines the actors at various stages during the business object lifecycle.
  • The manual process of assignment and thereby determination or authorization of actors on the business object is a cumbersome and time taking process.

Solution Brief

  • With the additional functionality ‘Automatic Context Assignment’ it is possible to assign the business objects automatically to context. The automatism is based on parameter which will be maintained at the relevant context and at the business object. The parameter at the context will be maintained by the business area specific context administrator. The parameter at the business object is defined by the business user for example during the creation of the ER or other PLM objects. Based on the parameter the automatic context assignment can assign the business object to the contexts automatically. Also based on the business parameter, using the automatic context assignment functionality the right sets of users can be determined across the organization and be informed to take important business decisions.
  • The functionality can be used as a stand-alone solution to assign business objects to contexts like material, document, and change number etc. to manage the authority or as a combined solution of authority management and the agent determination in the PLM 7 Engineering record.

Outcomes

  • Completely automated, end to end solution for determination of actors throughout the business object lifecyce.
